(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Applicants are now being sought for the 2009-10 Highly Skilled Educator (HSE) Cadre.
The HSE program provides support to low-performing public schools by placing individuals in those schools to work with teachers, administrators and other staff to improve student achievement.
The criteria for eligibility includes:
· Kentucky certification as an educator
· a minimum of five years of successful experience as a teacher or educational administrator
· involvement in teaching or administration within the last three years
· current full-time employment with a Kentucky school district
HSEs participate in three to four weeks of training during the summer, providing them with the skills and resources necessary to deliver exceptional service to schools under a variety of diverse and unique circumstances. Training continues throughout the school year.
The HSE program enables educators to take leadership and instructional skills to a new level. The program provides members the opportunity to refine these skills as they share their valuable professional experiences with children and colleagues across Kentucky.
The HSE program also provides opportunities to complete leadership certification. Through a joint venture with the University of Kentucky, HSEs have the opportunity to earn certifications in principalship, instructional supervision and superintendency. After HSEs exit the program, they are encouraged to return to local school districts in leadership roles to assist schools in improving student achievement as they close achievement gaps and reach proficiency.
The deadline for applications is October 31. Applications can be found on the Kentucky Department of Education’s Web site here.
